GTA 6 Collector’s Box: $400 Price, No Game Included — What’s Inside

Rockstar Games has revealed an official GTA 6 collector’s box — and it has instantly become one of the most controversial announcements of the year. Dubbed the “Goodtime State – Vice City Collection,” the premium set is stuffed with Leonida-themed merchandise, from a Macca the Gator figure to GTA-branded Oakley sunglasses. There’s just one problem: the $399.99 box does not include Grand Theft Auto VI itself.

The announcement dropped on September 24 via Rockstar’s official channels, and the backlash was immediate. Within hours, “no game included” was trending across gaming circles on X, with fans doing the math: $400 for merch, plus another $80–$100 for the actual game.

What’s Inside the Vice City Collection

Unlike a traditional collector’s edition, this is a pure merchandise package — 11 items inspired by the fictional world of Leonida and its hit in-universe TV show, Macca the Gator:

• 6-inch Macca the Gator figure — with a hidden stash compartment
• GTA VI Oakley Frogskins sunglasses — matte black with Prizm Sapphire lenses
• New Era 9FORTY snapback hat — Vice City Collection branding
• Leonida Keys crossbody bag
• Magnetic mirror and enamel pin set
• Chunkee the manatee shot glass + swizzle spoon
• Razor blade keychain, vinyl stickers & a double-sided Leonida map poster

Rockstar also teased that more GTA VI Collection apparel and collectibles are coming to its store soon — suggesting this box is just the opening wave of launch merch.

Price and Release Date

The box ships on November 19, 2026 — the same day Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For reference, the game itself costs $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store, meaning a die-hard fan buying both is looking at roughly $500 all-in.

Why Fans Are Angry

The reaction across X and Reddit has been overwhelmingly negative, and it centers on one thing: value. At $400, buyers expected a traditional collector’s edition — steelbook, art book, in-game bonuses, and crucially, a copy of the game. Instead, Rockstar is selling what amounts to a luxury merch bundle at collector’s-edition pricing.

“$400 and no game is insane” became the refrain of the day. Some fans defended it as a premium lifestyle collection aimed at superfans rather than gamers, but the dominant sentiment is clear: Rockstar misread the room. Notably, Rockstar has not announced a separate, game-including collector’s edition — so for now, this merch box is the only premium physical offering.

The Bigger Picture: GTA 6 Launch Hype

The box reveal caps a frantic month for GTA 6 news. Pre-orders are reportedly heavily skewed toward PS5, according to The Verge — a claim Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball publicly pushed back on, saying GTA VI is “breaking records” on Xbox and that its preorder share matches Xbox’s share of the console market. Meanwhile, data suggests nearly 9 in 10 pre-orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition.

With under two months to go until launch, expect Rockstar’s weekly announcement rhythm — fans have dubbed it “GTA-mas” — to keep delivering right up to November 19.
