Home›Maps›GTA 6 Map Leak: Rockstar Scrubs Secret Island Names

The latest GTA 6 map leak has prompted Rockstar Games to quietly edit the store listing for its $400 GTA 6 Collector’s Edition after fans spotted unannounced map locations on the included poster of Leonida. The original image showed island names Rockstar has never officially confirmed — and now the labels are gone.
What the Collector’s Edition map originally showed
When Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection on 24 September, one of its 11 items drew the most attention from map-hunters: a double-sided souvenir poster with a stylised map of Leonida, the fictional Florida-inspired state where GTA 6 takes place.
Fans zooming into the store image found a cluster of four islands on the left side of the map. Two carried full name labels: Sanbars and Crude Islands — some outlets read the first name as “Sandbars”. According to Notebookcheck, fans also found partial labels near the top and bottom of the image, one beginning with “Dra” and another with “Beld”. The “Dra” label may be Draper Island, a name the community mapping project had already linked to footage of Port Gellhorn.
Rockstar’s silent edit
Soon after screenshots of the original image spread across social media, Rockstar updated the store listing and removed the island name labels entirely. The island outlines stayed on the map — only the text was scrubbed. Before-and-after comparison images were quickly shared side by side on X, and community breakdowns like the one embedded above document every change.
Rockstar has not explained the edit. Notebookcheck noted that the reason is unclear, since the labels reveal little about the final build of the game, and suggested the studio may simply want to show these places in its own marketing before launch.
Fan reaction online was mostly about timing. Many players pointed out that screenshots of the original image were already saved, archived and shared everywhere, so removing the labels did not keep the names private in any meaningful sense.
What the names could mean
None of these names are on Rockstar’s official list. What is officially confirmed about the GTA 6 map is that Rockstar has named six regions of Leonida: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Sanbars, Crude Islands and the partial “Dra” and “Beld” labels are not on that list — at least, not yet.
- Sanbars / Sandbars — a fully visible label on the western island cluster. The name reads like a low-key sandbar chain, possibly connected to boating routes.
- Crude Islands — the second full label. “Crude” is an odd name for a tourist spot, which has fuelled speculation about an oil-rig or industrial storyline angle.
- “Dra…” — the partial label, possibly Draper Island, a name the community mapping project had already connected to Port Gellhorn footage.
- “Beld…” — fully unknown. No community project has a confident match for this one yet.
The poster also hides a few other oddities: one side shows an octopus and a mermaid-like creature in the artwork booklet imagery, and some regions of the print are deliberately blurred or covered with stylised in-universe travel stamps and water stains. Rockstar clearly wants fans to know the general shape of Leonida — coastline, major arteries, the Keys — while keeping exact story locations secret until launch day.
How this GTA 6 map leak compares with earlier map leaks
This is not the first look at the GTA 6 map outside Rockstar’s official channels. A map said to come from an older development build surfaced online on 18 August 2026 together with leaked gameplay footage — Take-Two responded with copyright takedowns. A 2015 build of the map also leaked in mid-September.
Interestingly, fans have noted that the Collector’s Edition map does not match the earlier leaked layout, which suggests Rockstar has changed parts of the map since those builds — or that the poster is a stylised version rather than a one-to-one layout. Either way, the four island labels are the first unannounced Leonida location names to come from an official Rockstar image, which is why the community latched onto them.
What this means
Rockstar’s secrecy is the story here as much as the names themselves. The studio did not have to edit the image — the labels revealed nothing about gameplay, story or release plans. But the fact that it did scrub them, quickly and silently, tells fans that these islands are real enough to matter. Rockstar guards Leonida’s geography like launch-day spoilers, and every deliberate blur, stamp and removed label is the studio choosing exactly when and how each region gets its official reveal.
With GTA 6 launching on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — less than two months away — expect Rockstar’s marketing to start naming these places on its own terms. Until then, Sanbars, Crude Islands and the mysterious “Dra” and “Beld” live in screenshots the internet refuses to forget.
