Is GTA 6 Coming to PC? Everything We Know About a PC Release
With 52 days to go until GTA 6 launches on November 19, one question keeps coming back louder than all the others: is GTA 6 coming to PC? Rockstar still hasn’t announced a PC version — the game is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only — but between the Take-Two CEO’s latest comments, the studio’s two-decade track record, and Rockstar’s own PC modding guidelines, there is more to go on than silence.
Here is every real clue about a GTA 6 PC release, separated from the wishful thinking.
The short answer: no PC version announced
Let’s start with what is confirmed, because everything else is interpretation. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and there is no PC version at launch. Rockstar has not announced a PC edition, a PC release window, a Steam page, or system requirements. As of today, PC is simply not on the official roadmap.
That is the frustrating part for PC players. But it is also exactly how Rockstar has handled every major release for over a decade — and that history is the first real clue.
What Take-Two’s CEO actually said about PC
At Take-Two’s annual shareholders meeting on September 17, CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked whether PS5 Pro shortages were pushing the company to think differently about the PC platform. His answer was carefully worded — and worth reading twice:
“The strategy of the company is, over time, generally speaking, to launch for any platforms for which there’s a meaningful audience,” Zelnick said. “And I would note that the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time.”
Here is the catch the headlines sometimes skip: at no point did Zelnick say the words “Grand Theft Auto.” He was describing how Take-Two thinks about platforms in general, not confirming anything about GTA 6.
Still, the economics behind his words are hard to ignore. Zelnick noted that for a big title, PC can now account for 45–50% of total sales — a dramatic shift from the roughly 5% PC contributed to titles like NBA 2K back in 2007. And GTA 5’s PC audience is about as “meaningful” as audiences get: trackers estimate 50–90 million copies sold on PC, with nearly 1.9 million Steam user reviews on the legacy edition alone.
Rockstar’s history: consoles first, PC later
If you want to predict what Rockstar will do, look at what Rockstar has done:
- GTA 5: launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, arrived on PC in April 2015 — roughly 19 months later.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: launched on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018, arrived on PC in December 2019 — roughly 13 months later.
The pattern is consistent: Rockstar serves the console audience first, then delivers an enhanced PC version 12–19 months later as what amounts to a second selling cycle. Former Rockstar developer Mike York has said the company tends to “prioritize what sells” — and at launch, that means consoles.
Apply that 12–19 month window to GTA 6’s November 19, 2026 launch and you land somewhere between late 2027 and mid-2028 for a possible PC release. That is pattern-matching, not information — Rockstar hasn’t said a word to confirm it — but it is the most evidence-based guess anyone can make right now.
The clues that PC is coming anyway
Beyond history and CEO-speak, a few concrete details suggest Rockstar is already thinking about PC:
- Rockstar published PC modding guidelines on September 10. The rules cover single-player mods, ban story rewrites and cross-title asset mashups, and close emulator loopholes — all written for a PC version of GTA 6 that officially doesn’t exist yet. Studios don’t usually write the PC rulebook for a platform they have no plans to ship on. (We broke down every modding rule here.)
- The PC audience is too big to skip. Tens of millions of GTA 5 PC copies, a thriving modding scene, and PC now driving up to half of a big title’s sales — walking away from that permanently would be a first for Take-Two, not a tradition.
- The engine work is already PC-shaped. Rockstar’s August 27 Extended Look was captured on a base PS5, and studio head Rob Nelson has said the console build targets 30fps — a PC version with higher frame rates, ultrawide support and upscaling tech like DLSS/FSR is the natural home for the game’s full visual ambition.
What we don’t know (and what to ignore)
Equally important: the things nobody should claim to know yet. There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements — any “minimum specs” graphic circulating on social media is invented. There is no Steam page, no confirmed launcher (Steam vs Rockstar Games Launcher is an open question), and no word on whether a PC version would launch alongside the expected 2027 online mode or separately.
And one warning for the wait: the gap between announcement and release is prime hunting season for fake “GTA 6 PC download” scams. Rockstar will announce a PC version on its own channels — the Newswire, @RockstarGames — not through a random download link in a YouTube comment. If it isn’t on Rockstar’s channels, it isn’t real.
What this means for PC players
Here is the honest summary. A GTA 6 PC release is not announced, not dated, and not guaranteed in writing anywhere. But every structural signal — Rockstar’s unbroken console-first-then-PC history, a CEO openly talking up PC’s growing share of revenue, PC modding rules published two months before launch, and one of the largest PC audiences in gaming history waiting on the other side — points the same direction: a PC version is a matter of when, not if.
The realistic expectation is a wait of at least a year after November 19, with late 2027 to mid-2028 as the evidence-based window. If you’re a PC-only player, the choice is the same one GTA 5 and RDR2 players faced: wait it out, or find a console for Leonida. Either way, you’ll know the moment Rockstar makes it official — and we’ll have it covered the second they do.
