Home›News›GTA 6 PEGI 18 Rating Reveals Dismemberment, Cocaine and Sex Scenes — Then Vanishes

✅ CONFIRMED
GTA 6 has officially been classified PEGI 18 in Europe — and unlike the short ESRB badge, PEGI published a full content breakdown before the page vanished. The listing describes detailed decapitation and dismemberment, cocaine you can snort straight from your hand at any time, and interactive private dances, making this the most explicit official preview yet of the November 19 launch build.
Quick answer: The GTA 6 PEGI 18 rating confirms bloody, highly realistic violence including detailed decapitation and dismemberment, frequent drug use with cocaine carried and snorted from your hand, nudity, intercourse and sexual fetishes, and hands-on private dances. The detailed PEGI page appeared on 2 October and has since been removed, though screenshots remain.
Key takeaways
- PEGI classified GTA 6 as 18 for violence, sex, drugs and in-game purchases — Europe’s maximum standard age rating.
- The breakdown names detailed decapitation and dismemberment, a step beyond the generic “Blood and Gore” on the ESRB badge.
- Drug use is frequent and prominent: cocaine carried and snorted from your hand, or used with other characters from your inventory.
- Sexual content covers nudity, intercourse, fetishes and paid private dances where you can touch dancers’ breasts and buttocks.
- The full PEGI listing has since vanished with a “page could not be found” message; IGN has asked PEGI for clarification.
What does the GTA 6 PEGI 18 rating actually say?
The classification gives GTA 6 PEGI 18 for strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes and illegal drug use, plus in-game purchases. Its content text states that because of free-roam, “the player can harm all other characters inhabiting the environment,” including civilians, criminals and the authorities — with violence bloody and highly realistic.
That wording matters because it comes from the regulator, not a leak: PEGI describes the submitted build, so each line is a confirmed feature. The synopsis also names Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as criminals drawn into a conspiracy after a failed robbery. We covered the North American companion in our GTA 6 ESRB Mature 17+ rating explained piece.
How violent is GTA 6 according to PEGI?
According to PEGI, violence is frequent and highly realistic, with certain weapons able to cause “detailed decapitation and dismemberment.” Domestic animals can also be harmed, though with less injury detail than humans. The rating adds frequent strong language, including discriminatory dialogue via in-game TV and radio.
This is the first official confirmation that GTA 6’s gore goes beyond GTA 5’s. Limbs coming off with heavy weapons has been fan theory since the trailers, but only a ratings board would state it. The animal note ties into our GTA 6 wildlife guide to all 170+ confirmed species.
What drug use does the rating describe?
PEGI says drug use is “frequent and prominent”: you can partake with other characters or use illegal drugs directly from your inventory, and most notably cocaine can be carried and “snorted directly from their hand at any time.” That makes drug use an interactive, on-demand mechanic rather than a cutscene-only vice.
In GTA 5, drugs were mostly story dressing. An inventory item usable anywhere is a systemic change — and PEGI cannot say whether it buffs you or attracts police. Until Rockstar shows it, treat the effect as unknown; what is confirmed is the act itself.
What sexual content is in the rating?
PEGI lists strong sexual themes including nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes. In nightclubs you can pay for private dances “during which, the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers’ breasts and buttocks” — a hands-on system rather than a passive animation.
Strip clubs have been in GTA since Vice City, but they were watch-only; making the dance interactive is exactly what earns a PEGI 18 over a 16. Rockstar has not commented. For confirmed world context, see our GTA 6 map guide to the 6 regions of Leonida.
Why did the PEGI listing disappear?
The detailed page is no longer live and now returns “The requested page could not be found.” Undercode News reports it appeared on 2 October, one day after the ESRB badge went live, with screenshots circulating before the removal; IGN says it has contacted PEGI for clarification.
A removal does not make the rating fake: Insider Gaming, Twisted Voxel and MP1st captured the same verbatim text, and stores still show PEGI 18. A premature publish is the likeliest explanation — and the most detailed official description of GTA 6 currently survives only as screenshots.
GTA 6 PEGI 18 vs ESRB M: what each board confirms
| Category | PEGI 18 (Europe) | ESRB M 17+ (North America) |
|---|---|---|
| Violence | Bloody, high realism; detailed decapitation & dismemberment; harm any character | Blood and Gore, Intense Violence (no detail published yet) |
| Drugs | Frequent & prominent; cocaine snorted from your hand at any time | Use of Drugs and Alcohol |
| Sex | Nudity, intercourse, fetishes; interactive private dances | Nudity, Strong Sexual Content |
| Language | Frequent “fuck”, occasional “cunt”; discriminatory language on TV/radio | Mature Humor, Strong Language |
| Animals | Domestic animals can be harmed, with reduced injury detail | Not specified |
| Purchases | In-game purchases; game fully playable without them | In-Game Purchases (exact item not specified) |
Both boards agree GTA 6 is adults-only everywhere. Our GTA 6 release date guide for November 19, 2026 tracks the launch and pre-load timeline this rating counts down to.
What this means
Ratings week is when a game stops being trailers and becomes a product, and PEGI has given us the clearest feature list of the launch build. Interactivity is the theme: drugs from your pocket, hands during a dance, any character harmable. Nothing contradicts Take-Two either — PEGI notes the story is fully playable without purchases, matching Strauss Zelnick’s 17 September line. Expect PEGI to republish quietly; meanwhile parents have 47 days’ warning in the regulator’s own language.
Frequently asked questions
What is the GTA 6 PEGI 18 rating?
GTA 6 is rated PEGI 18 in Europe for violence, sex, drugs and in-game purchases. PEGI’s detailed text cites bloody realistic violence with detailed decapitation and dismemberment, frequent drug use including cocaine snorted from your hand, nudity, intercourse, sexual fetishes and interactive private dances.
Can you use drugs in GTA 6?
Yes — according to PEGI, drug use is frequent and prominent. You can use illegal drugs with other characters or directly from your inventory, and cocaine can be carried and snorted directly from your hand at any time. Rockstar has not yet shown the mechanic or its effects.
Why was the GTA 6 PEGI page removed?
The detailed listing now returns “page could not be found.” It appeared on 2 October and was captured by Insider Gaming, Twisted Voxel and MP1st before disappearing. IGN has asked PEGI for clarification; a premature publish or correction is most likely, and the PEGI 18 badge remains on store pages.
Is GTA 6 more violent than GTA 5?
On paper, yes. GTA 5’s ESRB descriptors match GTA 6’s, but PEGI’s GTA 6 text specifically names detailed decapitation and dismemberment from certain weapons — language not used for GTA 5 — alongside the ability to harm any character in the free-roam world.
When does GTA 6 release?
GTA 6 launches 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders can pre-load from 12 November. No PC version has been announced.
