GTA 6 Rated 18+ in Brazil: Global Age Ratings Re-Checked (Oct 12)

Brazil’s classification board has officially published its verdict on Grand Theft Auto VI: 18+. It was the one genuinely new rating to surface during our latest live sweep of every regional store and ratings board on Oct 12 — exactly one week after our first global check on Oct 5. Japan’s CERO and Germany’s USK still have no GTA 6 listing, and the ESRB’s long-form rating summary remains unpublished with 38 days to launch.

Brazil’s ClassInd now rates GTA 6 “18 ANOS” for extreme violence, sexual content and legal drugs — spotted on the Xbox Brazil store page. That leaves Japan (CERO) and Germany (USK) as the only major boards still without a GTA 6 listing. The ESRB’s long-form rating summary is still unpublished, 38 days before launch.

What did the Oct 12 sweep check?

Live, read-only visits to esrb.org (GTA VI, rating ID 41627), the Rockstar Games Store buy page, the Xbox Store (US and Brazil), Best Buy and GameStop GTA 6 product pages, Amazon, Japan’s cero.biz title search, Germany’s usk.de title database, and Rockstar’s Newswire. What’s new: Brazil’s ClassInd 18+ rating

The Xbox Brazil store page for GTA 6 now displays the ClassInd seal: “18 ANOS — Violência Extrema, Conteúdo Sexual, Drogas Lícitas” (18 years — extreme violence, sexual content, legal drugs). Brazilian social media posts from the past few days reference the same classification, independently corroborating the store page. Rockstar has issued no press release about it.

Brazil was one of three boards still pending in our Oct 5 check — alongside Japan’s CERO and Germany’s USK, both still blank.

What didn’t change — and why the ESRB’s silence matters

ESRB rating ID 41627 still shows M 17+ with the same seven descriptors and only “In-Game Purchases” — and the long-form Rating Summary is still just boilerplate. The ESRB usually publishes the long summary in the final weeks before launch with scene-level detail (GTA V’s mentioned dismemberment, the strip club and cocaine use); the GTA 6 equivalent still isn’t public. Japan’s cero.biz title search still returns no matching titles. Germany’s usk.de database has no GTA VI entry — only older titles. PEGI’s own detailed listing (briefly published, then removed on Oct 2) is still down; European Xbox pages show the final PEGI 18 with descriptors, some still marked “PEGI 18 Provisional”. Retail side-note: physical SKUs finally show ESRB M

Best Buy’s physical PS5 and Xbox GTA 6 SKUs ($79.99, code in box, delivers Nov 12) now display “M (Mature 17+)” — they showed “RP” on Oct 5 — and the box art has been updated to the new comic-panel key art. GameStop’s product pages now read “ESRB Rating: M (Mature)”, though the box art image itself still carries the old “RP” logo — an amusing leftover. GameStop also flags “100+ Purchased Recently” on the game listing and now surfaces pre-order messaging for the Vintage Vice City Pack.

What does the Brazil rating actually tell us? (analysis)

It confirms GTA 6 has cleared one of Latin America’s stricter classification regimes: an 18+ there mirrors the ESRB and PEGI top ratings and suggests no Brazil-specific cuts were needed for classification. Caveat: classification is not a censorship ruling — boards can still require edits separately. Nothing in the wording announces new content; it matches the violence, drugs and sexual-content profile already public.
