GTA 6 Germany Rating: USK Confirms 18+ Adults-Only

GTA 6 Germany Rating: USK Confirms 18+ Adults-Only
AI concept art

Verdict: ✅ CONFIRMED — Germany’s USK database officially lists GTA 6 as adults-only; PEGI’s public database checked directly on 19 October 2026 and returned no entry.

Quick answer: Germany’s USK has officially rated GTA 6 “keine Jugendfreigabe” — 18+, adults only — deciding the case on 13 September 2026 and citing drastic violence, drugs and criminal role models. But PEGI’s own database still returns no entry for GTA 6 as of 19 October, even though stores show PEGI 18 — with 31 days to the 19 November launch.

With 31 days to go until Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026, the global ratings picture is nearly complete — but not quite. This week Germany’s ratings board made it official in its public database, and our own live check of Europe’s board turned up a genuine surprise: PEGI’s official database still has no entry for GTA 6 at all, even as PlayStation and Xbox stores across Europe display a PEGI 18 badge.

Germany’s USK officially rates GTA 6 adults-only

Germany’s Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) now lists Grand Theft Auto VI in its public database with the classification “keine Jugendfreigabe gemäß § 14 JuSchG” — no youth approval, the German equivalent of 18+ and the strictest tier the board offers. The entry’s decision date is 13 September 2026, though the listing only became publicly visible around 15 October, when German outlets including ComputerBase and GameStar first reported it.

The USK’s stated reasons are worth reading in full, because they differ from every other board so far:

  • Drastic violence — violence is “clearly visualised or excessively focused” in the USK’s wording.
  • Drugs — drugs or drug use are “portrayed positively or frequently.”
  • Criminal role models — robberies, illegal street races and similar crimes are presented uncritically as adventure, and criminal organisations can be glamorised.

Notably absent from the USK’s reasoning: sex and nudity. The ESRB’s Mature 17+ listing explicitly flags nudity and strong sexual content, and PEGI’s store badge covers sex — but Germany’s board anchored its decision on violence, drugs and criminal glorification alone. The USK entry also notes possible in-game purchases, matching the ESRB’s interactive-elements label.

The entry currently visible covers the Xbox Series X|S version; the PS5 edition is content-identical and the 18+ rating applies to both in practice. What the USK entry does not say is whether Germany gets a cut version — there is no indication of a separate German build, and no official word of cuts from Rockstar.

PEGI’s own database still has no GTA 6 entry

Here is the finding we verified ourselves, twice, on 19 October 2026: searching PEGI’s official public database at pegi.info for both “Grand Theft Auto VI” and “GTA VI” returns zero results — “No results found. The title of the game you were searching for cannot be found in this database.”

That is a real discrepancy. Since late September, PlayStation Store pages and PlayStation advertising across Europe and the UK have displayed a PEGI 18 badge for GTA 6. But PEGI’s own searchable record — the formal public register of its classification decisions — contains nothing for the game with a month left until launch.

The likeliest explanation is mundane: PEGI’s public database simply lags the store listings, and the formal entry will appear before 19 November. But until it does, every “GTA 6 is PEGI 18” claim rests on store badges rather than the board’s own published decision — a distinction worth keeping straight.

ESRB long summary still unpublished

Across the Atlantic, the ESRB’s database lists GTA VI as Mature 17+ for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series with seven content descriptors — Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol — plus the In-Game Purchases interactive element.

What is still missing: the ESRB’s long rating summary, the paragraph-length content description the board publishes for most major releases (older GTA titles have one). As of our 19 October check, the entry carries only the short-form listing. Expect the full summary — usually the most quotable document in a rating cycle — to land in the final weeks before launch.

The full global ratings board, 31 days out

With Germany now decided, here is where every major market stands:

Region / boardRatingWhat it flagsStatus
North America (ESRB)Mature 17+Blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong sexual content, drugs/alcohol, in-game purchasesDecided 1 Oct; long summary pending
Germany (USK)18 – keine JugendfreigabeDrastic violence, drugs, criminal role models, in-game purchasesDecided 13 Sept, public 15 Oct
Europe / UK (PEGI)18 on store listingsViolence, sex, drugs, nudity, in-game purchasesNOT in PEGI database as of 19 Oct
Japan (CERO)Z (18+)Crime, violence onlyDecided 17 Oct
Australia (ACB)R18+High-impact violence, sex scenes, drug useDecided
New Zealand (OFLC)R18Sex scenes, nudityDecided 2 Oct
South Korea (GCRB)19+ Adults OnlyStrong violence, sexual contentDecided 16 Oct
Brazil (ClassInd)18Extreme violence, sexual content, legal drugsDecided 12 Oct
Saudi Arabia / UAE21+ on storefrontsNo detailed breakdown publishedListed

The pattern is unmistakable: every major market has put GTA 6 in its strictest adults-only tier. Nobody under 18 is buying this game at retail anywhere that matters — and in Germany, the USK’s “keine Jugendfreigabe” wording goes further, explicitly excluding the game from the youth segment altogether.

What this means for launch

Thirty-one days out, the ratings story is essentially settled: no regulator can still spring a surprise on Rockstar. The two loose ends — PEGI’s missing database entry and the ESRB’s unpublished long summary — are paperwork, not risk. If anything, the USK’s reasoning is the most interesting document of the cycle so far: Germany looked at the same game as America and chose to talk about glorified crime rather than sex.

FAQ

What is GTA 6’s age rating in Germany?

18+, officially “keine Jugendfreigabe gemäß § 14 JuSchG” (no youth approval) in the USK database. Only adults may buy it; sale to minors is prohibited.

Why did the USK rate GTA 6 18+?

Three stated reasons: drastically visualised violence, drugs portrayed positively or frequently, and criminal role models — robberies and illegal street races presented as adventure, with criminal organisations potentially glamorised. Sex and nudity were not cited.

Is GTA 6 PEGI 18?

European store listings show PEGI 18, but PEGI’s own public database had no entry for the game as of 19 October 2026. The store badge is real; the formal database entry appears to lag behind.

Is the German version of GTA 6 censored?

Unconfirmed. The USK entry gives no indication of a separate German build, and Rockstar has not announced any cuts. Previous GTA titles have sometimes shipped edited in Germany, so this remains one to watch.

Has the ESRB published its full GTA 6 rating summary?

Not yet. The short-form Mature 17+ listing with seven content descriptors is live, but the long-form content summary the ESRB publishes for major releases was still missing as of 19 October.
